Seattle Roof Replacement with GAF Natural Shadow Charcoal

This Seattle roofing project included a full roof replacement using GAF Natural Shadow shingles in Charcoal. The system features upgraded ventilation, ice and water protection at key areas, and precision-installed flashing. Designed for Seattle’s wet climate, the roof delivers long-term performance and reliability.

Project Overview

This single-family home in Seattle, WA required a complete roof replacement due to aging composition shingles and ventilation inefficiencies. With a 6/12 pitch and surrounding tree coverage, moisture management and airflow were critical considerations. The project began with a full tear-off down to the deck, followed by a detailed inspection. GAF WeatherWatch ice and water shield was installed around penetrations, valleys, and the chimney to protect against leaks in vulnerable areas. GAF FeltBuster synthetic underlayment was then applied across the remaining roof surface. The new roofing system features GAF Natural Shadow shingles in Charcoal, providing a clean, uniform appearance. Starter shingles and ridge cap components were installed to ensure proper sealing and water shedding. Ventilation improvements included installing multiple RVO exhaust vents to enhance airflow and regulate attic temperatures. Additional upgrades included new lead pipe boots, metal valley installation, and step flashing at all roof-to-wall transitions. Due to site conditions, materials were manually loaded, and extra care was taken around nearby power lines to ensure safe and efficient installation. 

Results

The completed roof significantly improves both performance and curb appeal. The Charcoal shingles give the home a modern, refreshed look while blending well with the surrounding landscape. With upgraded ventilation, reinforced waterproofing, and high-quality materials, the home is now better protected against Seattle’s heavy rainfall and moisture conditions. The system is built for long-term durability with reduced maintenance needs.
