Project Overview
This single-family home in Tacoma, WA required a complete roof replacement due to multiple aging layers and signs of wear. The existing system included up to five layers in certain sections, which can trap moisture and compromise structural integrity over time. Given the region’s frequent rain and moisture exposure, proper waterproofing and ventilation were critical.State Roofing & Exteriors performed a full tear-off down to the deck, followed by a full redeck to ensure a solid foundation. The project included installation of GAF FeltBuster underlayment and WeatherWatch ice and water shield at all critical areas such as valleys, penetrations, and around the chimney. New metal flashing systems were installed, including step flashing, valley metal, and chimney flashing with counter flashing for long-term leak protection.The roofing system was completed with GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Charcoal, along with starter shingles and hip and ridge components. Additional work included sealing all exposed fasteners, reinstalling roof penetrations, and ensuring proper drainage and water diversion.
Results
The new roofing system provides significantly improved protection against Tacoma’s wet climate, reducing the risk of leaks and moisture intrusion.
