This Federal Way project included a full roof replacement and new gutter system installation using GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Barkwood. The upgrade featured enhanced underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and new 5-inch K-style gutters. The result is improved water management, long-term durability, and a clean, updated exterior suited for the Pacific Northwest climate.

Project Overview

This two-story single-family home in Federal Way, WA had an aging composition roof and outdated gutter system that were no longer effectively managing water. With steady rainfall common in the area, proper drainage and roof protection were essential to prevent moisture damage and foundation issues. State Roofing & Exteriors performed a full tear-off of the existing roofing layer and inspected the plywood decking. The new system included GAF Felt Buster synthetic underlayment and WeatherWatch ice and water shield installed at all critical areas such as penetrations, valleys, and around the chimney. GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Barkwood were installed along with starter shingles and hip and ridge components. New lead pipe boots, metal flashing, and upgraded RVO ventilation were also included. In addition to the roofing system, the project included installation of new white 5-inch K-style gutters and 2x3 downspouts, along with fascia board replacement to ensure proper alignment and drainage performance.

The completed project significantly improves both roof performance and water management.
